Darios Beer Pairing

We have had a Dario's gift card from the kids for many months now and jumped on the chance Wednesday to get to this winter beer pairing with Joe & Molly Lang.

The Belgian beers were fabulous-rich, full and the two "noels" had hints of Christmas spices.  Dario stopped by the table and said it really challenges him to pair food with beers, but tried to use hearty winter flavors and cooked with the beers to help them work together.

I have never had foie gras! Now I know what the fuss is all about----heart stopping goodness (in more ways than one--you fatty little duck liver) I may have taken a pass had I known, but was glad we had this little taster portion. It really did rock.  I can see that my photo of the menu missed a few things-that second course was salmon cake. Every course was petitely sized so it was more of a tasting menu than courses--which was perfect!

I told Kevin on the way home that if I were asked to be a "regular" at any restaurant in town I would choose Dario's (love the ambiance)--so when we needed to grab dinner Friday before going back downtown, we returned to Dario's.

No Belgian scaldis or carolus for us this time, but we were greeted with "you've returned!" when we arrived, so I think I am a certified regular !

About

DarioDario’s Brasserie is the culmination of a long time dream of chef/owner Dario Schicke who grew up in Sarajevo and left his home in 1992 at the start of the Bosnian War. He ended up in Germany where he met his wife, Amy, who hails from Kearney Nebraska. They moved to New York City where Dario opened a business that specialized in Exotic and Belgian Beers.
Finding a passion for Belgian Beers, Dario wanted to learn to cook with them. So he enrolled at The French Culinary Institute in New York, training in classical French cooking.
In 2001 after the devastation of the World Trade Centers on 9/11, Dario and his family decided to move to Nebraska and start over in Omaha. Dario worked at the French Café and The Market Basket before opening his own restaurant.
Dario’s Brasserie opened December 31, 2006 in the heart of Omaha’s historic Dundee neighborhood. A Brasserie, pronounced (Brahs-uh-REE) is an informal French café that serves beer, wine and simple hearty food. Dario’s is a European style restaurant with banquette seating and gentle lighting that give an intimate and elegant feel. Our cozy and comfortable bar area is great for a drink or causal dining experience.
Dario’s European upbringing, passion for Belgian food and beer, and his French training all contribute to the exceptional food at Dario’s. The highest quality and freshest ingredients, along with the latest cooking techniques are combined to make your dining experience memorable.
Dario’s, fine food in a friendly atmosphere.
