March began with trying to find a great gift for Nick's birthday. What to get a guy who lives in paradise that already has a chest full of gift certificates, a membership to a massage club and doesn't want to accumulate worldly goods in Hawaii? They moved last weekend and gave us an iPhone tour of the house..when he got to the huge kitchen with 20 foot ceilings and wood floors he said "this is where the hammock goes". Aha! I found this double hammock and sent it asap. Consider it the Maui "great room" . It comes with a travel bag so you can use it at the beach all day or for camping.
On to Minneapolis where we were able to attend Anton's basketball tournament. Met with the news "our star player has a fever" we proceeded to the Y . The whole team played their hearts out and came up winning the first round. Anton has some serious basketball skills emerging!

Last timeout-- 27.6 seconds and down by 2!
They played a great game but could not get those last points to win. |
We all joined Ardee and John at
Cafe Ena which was a fabulous place to "be" (the first criterion for a great meal) and enjoyed delicious Puerto Rican- inspired fare.
On Sunday, we got a tour of Abi and Craig's new house-it is awesome--a completely remodeled 1930-40's home that looks like a Pottery Barn team designed it :D Walgreens bought the row of three houses and had them redone-for resale. Lots of beautiful spaces and quality choices--the spaces were opened up but details like 8 inch floorboards and original doors remain.
 |
| Craig's grandmother started painting in her 60's-and dove into modern art-these are both her work and they have more--very cool |
 |
| The neighbors got together and sent flowers-thats a nice welcome! |
 |
| Kathy gave us the dire weather predictions so we took off early for Omaha-just before Ames the rain turned to sleet and became treacherous. |
 |
| After pulling over in Ames (the second time in 35 years that Kevin has ever stopped due to weather!) we ran off the city streets twice but missed hitting signs and cars---thankfully! |
 |
| Fruit cheese wine and cable--it'll do just fine! |
The following weekend we got a chance to hear the Notre Dame Mens Glee Club Spring Concert from the choir loft at St. John's--wow-it was wonderful and I think being up in the rafters lent an air of charm to the night--they were funny and had an ambitious program that left us amazed.
Amy and Maddy hosted a "ladies only" brunch in honor of Women's Month --those are beet-chocolate muffins and possibly, the worlds' best muffins ! (still need that recipe!) Everything was charming including Maddy's mid-century coffee set--)

Raspberry lemonade--
