I'm not Irish, but I look it!

St. Patrick's Day reminds me of Peter Yarrow.....

Its hard to explain the years from 1971-75 to anyone these days that didn't live through it. These were my mid-high school to mid-college years. Rebellion was walking in a  forest and getting back to nature (John Denver) -I made a burlap wall hanging for my best friend that said "Go to the Forest and Breathe". Her mother made me a macrame purse.  We hopped in her Volkswagen bug and drove country roads for hours, playing Jefferson Airplane on the cassette player.
 Happy car
My campaign slogan for Student Council election was "With a Little Help From My Friends " ala Joe Cocker.Joe Cocker -Woodstock  (doesn't seem like a winning slogan based on the "getting high" lyrics!)
Kevin gave me a Woodstock album and my Dad let me keep the album if I threw away the cover :D

Once I had a "Camelot" viewing party" and..... yes, people came!  I was addicted to movies like "Harold and Maude" and songs like "We all Cook with Honey" by Joy of Cooking and of course, the king of all music-Cat Stevens.

When I visited Kevin at St. Johns and Michaela at St. Bens, the girls hitchhiked to the Earth Shoe store in Dinky Town ( Minneapolis) because someone had to have a pair of Earth Shoes. (not me, I swear!) And, no, hitchhiking wasn't as safe as we imagined--the driver that picked us up made us promise to never ever do that again!

Nobody said they were pretty……but man were they cool

This characterized my high school and college years--a peaceful, flower filled nature inspired rebellion.

There are other things that seem unbelievable-but are true. Bob Langdon got "Chicago" to play in the Creighton Prep tin gym for a concert. And Peter Paul and Mary played at Creighton. (they were HUGE--why Creighton? I think it was rebellious too for bands to play in small arenas, for the people!) Afterward, they came to a small party at the Sodality House where Peggy and Kate lived. Peter Yarrow said I had to be Irish, and if I weren't I was still a "black haired muffin of a girl".  He might as well have written me a song I was so thrilled!

What a funny strange and wonderful time--

But hey, peace and love!

FLOWER POWER.
