Last weekend we spent 3 days in Spokane for Fall Family Weekend. We spent a beautiful Friday hiking (twice) in Riverside State Park where you can walk under pine cathedrals, near the river's edge listening to the rapids. The cliffside is rough, slate colored rock that looks like something out of a movie because it is so raw and tumbled--as if a giant poured charcoal and it tumbled down the hillside. Extreme bikers actually ride over it and passed us on the trail. It was exquisite and we brought the boys back with us late in the afternoon to experience it also. Nick had known of the spot, but Mitchell had not. It was very fun. The bridge is based upon a traditional Chinese concept and is called the "swinging bridge".It does sway when you are about half-way across the rapids.

We took Mitch to lunch at a riverside restaurant on the Centennial Trail, the most popular path to downtown from Gonzaga, and two of his friends walked by! So-we were delighted to have the opportunity to meet them. Mitch gave us a quick tour of campus, and the buildings in which he has classes, and then we all went out to join Nick at his school. Nick showed Kevin his classroom and school.
We stopped at a coffeeshop and played Scrabble across the park from Nicki's brothers house. When the Kane Family drove by, we joined them for Happy Hour and met Nicki's Mom & Dad,Grandma and extended family. We just love them all and of course, the similarities are striking--4 kids, family practice, 2 Joels, 2 Nicks-- and 2 mothers that rant liberal politics :)
