Doe Camp

Emily  and Micah

Julie in her "older look"

Last weekend I joined sisters-in-law, nieces, and Emily in St. Cloud for girls' weekend known as "Doe Camp". (The guys have Deer Camp in November so we followed suit). This year we celebrated Julie's 50 birthday Saturday afternoon. I arrived at 12:00 so missed the massages that were being given on-site, but per Emily's instructions, I did arrive bearing mimosas! We started the party with a "funeral luncheon" as Julie is 50 after all, and was known to have said that she doesn't mind funerals because she loves the luncheon. In true Minnesota fashion we enjoyed hot dishes of every kind (they could not believe it was my first tater tot hot dish). I brought "bars" and of course, Jan brought cookies. When Julie was born, she became kind of a "living doll" for Shirley and Sharon, who loved dressing her in itchy frilly but oh-so-adorable undies. Look closely at the cookies and you'll see what I mean. Julie was given a bag of clothes suitable for her new age, and she donned the support stockings, support shoes and the rest of the garb. We shared stories about moments when we thought to ourselves " I can't believe I just said/did that! I have become my mother" and had to try to match the story with the person. It was fun. Later that evening we went to a Kobe type restaurant and then watched Rita's around the world adventures on DVD. Sunday I had a few hours with Emily as I drove her to catch a plane to Phoenix. What a fun winter weekend!
