July 4

Kevin, Emily, Nick, Nicki and Mitch headed to the cabin with us for the 4th of July. Chuck, Mary, Anton and Leo joined us as well as Nicki's friend, Kelly.  There have been so many storms up there this year that I can't even remember if there was one on this weekend. Kevin and I drove after work and the kids had started off earlier to make the fireworks stop at ZORTS :D  I think this was the night that we drove for 1 1/2 hours in a torrential rain that actually seemed like being stuck in a car wash!

The weather cleared, it was hot but not horribly hot and we had a great weekend in and on the water.  Mice had invaded our camper, and I proposed setting off fireworks in it to make the problem go away---but Chuck, Kevin and kids tackled it for me with great success as it turns out! We have since researched disinclining mice to set up winter quarters  in campers, including moth balls and peanut butter diving board traps. If it happens again, I am going to ZORTS and blowing it sky high :D
Anton is an avid fisherman, but the weather had been so hot just before we arrived that it made the fishing very tough going. On his last day, he and Chuck went out with night crawlers and caught some mid-day sunnies. When I fished with Joe later in the month, we did a lot of surface fishing with hula poppers in and around two creek openings with great success and it is more fun that trolling for hours and hours. Anton--next summer we will do this!
