Weddings

It  struck me HARD! (in a good way) this week when Christin said she had her wedding dress fitting today!  With the end of October comes closet cleaning, heavy sweaters, hearty soups and the impending holiday season planning and list making.......but this year the holiday season is spelled w-e-d-d-i-n-g    :D

It is amazing and fun to plan a wedding this quickly (at least from my view of the world) and I am so happy to have found Lucile's for a venue.  I was reading about the building, Lucile's,  history yesterday and like any other place in the market, it was a river market store, mostly a corner mercantile from what I can tell.  Our kids would never believe that the Old Market took a turn toward the dilapidated  in the 50's through mid-70's and then was resuscitated by visionaries to the wonderful charming brick paved area we enjoy today.

Lucile Schaaf bought 510 S. 10th Street and deconstructed the entry by removing some stone facade to reveal and/or insert, a beautiful black iron gate. On the gate are the giant red numbers 510  and when you open the gate you find yourself in the entry looking at a tall red door. Once this door is opened, it is a different world in a "Lemony Snickety" kind of way.

Lucile salvaged entire lawfirms' woodwork, building gargoyles, wrought iron, red glass doors and re- purposed all within the beautiful surroundings of her "home". The windows are stained glass but also a multitude of leaded glass, even in the working kitchen--and I read that many  are from the Brandeis mansion. The chandeliers are breathtaking.

A note on Lucile-she was locally known as the "orange lady" because also in the mid-70's she decided to wear one color to make her life/day/personal statement predetermined, and that color was orange. From thereon she wore orange EVERYTHING.

The venue has been available for just a few months so I consider myself very lucky.

My decision made, I felt like my big task was behind me :D and I am so happy imagining entertaining and celebrating there with Joe and Christin and all of the family and friends.  The Maui plans are set, except for our daily itinerary which I leave to Joe Nicki and Nicki! Thats a no-brainer--everything is fun!

In the meantime, Peggy's daughter Tanin will be married in mid-June and book club is hosting a shower on February 15th.  Tanin directed me to Anthropologie's wedding website BHLDN  for her colors and I found some beautiful inspiration last weekend at Hobby Lobby -- will entertain myself working on shower decorations this January :D
