The first thing I did was set the clock to Chicago, Honolulu, Uganda and Michigan time zones. Emily called as I was doing that to say "good night". Great timing as I just noted it was 10:30 pm in Uganda!
Most days I can turn my mind off to the possible perils and try to focus on the adventures these guys are having. Every once in a while I see something that makes my heart race--even a story from Michigan and Chicago can be as disconcerting as ones from Uganda. But I must admit the image of Emily eating cowpeas in the dark and rain utterly alone has left a mark that will take some time to erase.
Yesterday I spent my lunch hour comparison shopping MediTransport Flight Services! Suddenly a broken leg or appendicitis didn't seem very trivial.
I am looking forward to my own adventures in Hawaii tomorrow and it will do my heart good (cue the tears) to see the "Nicks" .
The theme of the Minnesota family Christmas gifts is "Home is Where the Heart is". (sorry but with the $$ limit on theme gifts I can't give an iphone)
As I consider it, home for us will be connection---and I am thankful for email, facetime, skype, facebook and my iphone (cue the angelic chorus) as I bow to Steve Jobs. (hey, the election is over I changed loyalties).
